Privacy Policy

NutSplit helps friends split shared bills through an AI assistant (like Claude or ChatGPT) and the web app at app.nutsplit.com. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have. Questions: hello@nutsplit.com.

The short version

• Your ledger lives in a Google Sheet in the group owner's own Google Drive.
• We can only open files NutSplit created. We cannot see the rest of your Drive.
• We keep a log of actions taken in NutSplit (for example "added a bill", "confirmed items"), including the details sent with each one, so we can show history, fix mistakes, answer support questions and keep accounts secure.
• We don't sell your data and don't use it for ads.

What we collect

• Account details from Google: your Google account ID, name and email address when you sign in.
• Google access: a Google refresh token so NutSplit can create and update your group's Sheet. It is encrypted at rest (AES-256-GCM).
• Group details: group names, currency and settings, member display names, which members are linked to which accounts, invite codes, and the ID of each group's Google Sheet.
• Bill data: descriptions, items, amounts, who paid, how each bill is split, confirmations, disputes and payments. This is written to the group's Google Sheet. Short-lived copies (for example an item list waiting for you to pick who had what) are kept on our servers for up to 24 hours.
• Activity log: a record of each action you or your AI assistant take in NutSplit: what action, when, in which group, from which surface (AI connector or web app) and app (browser or AI client name), whether it succeeded, and the details sent with it (for example a bill's items, amounts and split). Long inputs such as uploaded Splitwise files are shortened.
• App usage: in the web app we log which pages you open, which buttons you tap and any errors you hit, tied to your account and a request id (shown as "Ref" on errors). This is how we investigate problems you report.
• Problem reports: when you use "Report a problem" (in the app or through your AI assistant) we store your message, the page and app version, and a list of your actions in the 30 minutes before it.
• Website analytics: on nutsplit.com we use Google Analytics and may use Microsoft Clarity to understand how visitors use the site (pages viewed, clicks, device and approximate location). These tools use cookies. They are not used inside the app.

Receipt photos are read by your AI assistant. NutSplit receives the items and amounts your assistant sends, not the photo itself.

How we use it

• To run NutSplit: calculate splits, keep the ledger, show balances, share the Sheet with group members, and add recurring bills.
• To show history, undo or correct mistakes, resolve disputes, and investigate problems or abuse.
• To improve the website and product.

Google user data

NutSplit asks for these Google permissions: openid, email, profile and drive.file. drive.file only allows access to files NutSplit creates or that you open with NutSplit. We use it to create each group's ledger Sheet, keep it up to date, keep it in a "NutSplit" folder, and share it read-only with the group's members.

NutSplit's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. We do not use Google user data for advertising, do not sell it, do not use it to train AI models, and do not let people read it except with your permission, for security, or where the law requires.

Who we share it with

• Your group: members see the group's bills and balances, and get view access to the group's Sheet.
• Service providers that run NutSplit for us: Cloudflare (hosting and database), Google (sign-in, Drive and Sheets), Clerk (web app sign-in), and Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity (website analytics).
• Your AI assistant: when you use NutSplit from Claude, ChatGPT or another assistant, the results of your requests go to that assistant, under its own privacy policy.
• When required by law, or to protect people's safety or NutSplit's rights.

How long we keep it

• Account and group details: while your account is active.
• Activity log, app usage and problem reports: up to 2 years, then deleted.
• Pick lists and cached Google access tokens: up to 24 hours.
• Your Google Sheets belong to you and stay in your Drive until you delete them.

Your choices

• Remove NutSplit's Google access at any time at myaccount.google.com/permissions.
• Email hello@nutsplit.com to get a copy of your data or have your account and activity log deleted. Bills you added stay in the group's Sheet, since they are part of other members' records.
• Block website analytics cookies in your browser settings.

Security

Traffic is encrypted with HTTPS, Google tokens are encrypted at rest, and only the NutSplit server can write to ledgers. No system is perfectly secure; tell us at hello@nutsplit.com if you find a problem.

Children

NutSplit is not meant for children under 13 (or the minimum age in your country) and we do not knowingly collect their data.

Changes

If we change this policy we will update the date above, and tell you in the app for significant changes.
